Helldivers 2 is handing out a new primary weapon for Liberty Day, and the official account named it this afternoon: the AR-23L Liberator. The 22-second teaser, posted with the line “Get ready to dispense some Liberty,” ends on a redemption rule. The rifle goes to all active accounts, defined as accounts that have been online in the last 30 days, on October 26 at 23:59 CET. That is 6:59pm Eastern on Monday.
Watch the short YouTubeSo the one thing to do this weekend is log in. If you have not played Helldivers 2 since September, a single session before the cutoff puts you on the list. Arrowhead has not said whether the weapon will be sold or earned some other way afterwards.
The teaser on X shows a Helldiver in black and yellow armor firing the rifle at Automatons and Terminids under a Liberty Day 2186 logo, 2186 being the in-game year. It does not show stats or a weapon card.
The AR-23L is the first game’s Liberator, back in black and yellow
The look of the gun points at the original Helldivers, where the AR-19 Liberator was the standard-issue rifle in this black and yellow finish. Helldivers 2’s version is the AR-23, so the new AR-23L reads as the current rifle in the old livery, and players are already calling it the legacy Liberator. Players on the Helldivers subreddit spotted it immediately, and the first question was whether the upgrades from that game, a bayonet, a recoil absorber and an extended magazine, come along. Arrowhead has not answered yet.
Liberty Day falls on October 26 every year, carried over from the first game’s annual celebration. In 2024, the first Liberty Day in Helldivers 2, the gifts were the R-2124 Constitution rifle and the DP-00 Tactical Armor, handed to every player the day after with no Major Order attached. Last year’s reward was a cape, the Veridical Ideology, earned through a Major Order to kill 40 million enemies with the Constitution, which is why “finally, a weapon and not another cape” is one of the top replies on the subreddit. This year’s teaser mentions no order, only the login window.
Helldivers 2 is on PlayStation 5, PC and Xbox Series X|S. Its latest patch, 7.2.1, landed on October 22.
