Alpha Nomos, the rhythm-action roguelite from independent studio RibCage Games, is out now on PC via Steam, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The game costs $17.99, and according to the publisher it is 10% off on Steam for the first seven days.
You play as Cello, who fights corrupted puppets in a world where something broke the music. According to the studio, the weapons are instruments recorded live in the studio, including the Xyloblades, a pair of xylophone swords.
The studio says combat is built around timing. Inputs are not quantized, so every hit lands when the button is pressed rather than snapping to the beat. Each run is shaped by musical powerups such as Reverb, Flanger and Delay, which change both how Cello fights and how the soundtrack sounds. Between runs, players can visit Maestro’s move shop to expand their arsenal, and a timing offset lets players adjust the beat to their own setup.
RibCage Games describes itself as a studio of four developers who left mobile gaming to make PC games. Alpha Nomos is their debut commercial release. CEO Itamar Berner said in a statement: “Every weapon you hear was played by a real musician and every hit lands exactly when you press it.”
