A Dark Cave, an atmospheric, story-driven incremental game from solo developer Julian, is set to launch on Steam on October 27, 2026. The game is primarily text-based, with players building the world in their imagination rather than on screen.

According to the developer, the game draws on classics like A Dark Room, Universal Paperclips and Kittens Game. It combines incremental progression with lore, mystery and unsettling discoveries. Julian says the web version has already attracted over 15,000 registered players.

Demo available during Next Fest

A free demo is already live on Steam. The game is taking part in Steam Next Fest, which runs October 19 to 26, so players can try it before the full release.

Julian is based in Germany and says he first played A Dark Room more than ten years ago. He says the past year has been spent turning that inspiration into A Dark Cave. According to the developer, early Steam keys for the full game are available to press on request.
