The short answer
- Where
- Talk to the Exam Proctor in Dagsion’s Temple district. Buy a License from the License Vendor standing next to the proctor, then take the Certification Exam. There are no seals.
- What gates it
- Renown is the hard gate: Renown 1 for Beginner exams, 4 for Specialty, 8 for Advanced. Master classes open in Part III, and Divine classes in Part III’s Fourth Section. Level and weapon rank raise your pass chance.
- How it plays out
- The exam screen shows your pass chance. One License is one attempt and is used up whether you pass or fail. Once a class is certified, you can switch back to it freely.
- The trap
- The game autosaves before the result, so you cannot reload a failed exam. Aim for 75% or higher, and note that Divine exams need 100%.

- No reloads: the game saves before the result. Wait for 75% or more.
- No promotion tree: any unit can take any exam it qualifies for.
- Class is weapon-locked: pick the class for the weapon the unit should use.
- Your lord’s first change is free early in Part I.
What this guide helps you do
Fortune’s Weave drops the seal items of older Fire Emblem games for an exam system tied to Renown. This guide explains how the Certification Exam works, lists all 58 classes by tier, shows which Advanced classes are hidden behind path quests, covers the Part III temples that unlock Master classes and the eight Divine classes with their items, and ends with what players run on each character. That last part is community leaning, not a ranking.
Checked on Ver. 1.1.0 (October 15, 2026). Recruit first with our recruitment guide, then come back here to build each unit.
Class change happens at the Exam Proctor with a License
Every class change goes through a Certification Exam. Find the Exam Proctor in the Temple district of Dagsion. The License Vendor stands next to the proctor. There are four License types, Beginner, Specialty, Advanced and Master, plus eight unique items for the Divine classes. Prices are not published.
One License covers one attempt. It is consumed whether you pass or fail, so a failed exam costs you the License as well as the class.
The exam tutorial arrives in Ch. 4 on Theodora’s path, where she is auto-classed as a Soldier. On Dietrich’s and Leda’s paths it is reported at Ch. 5. Cai’s chapter is not confirmed. Your lord also gets a free first class change early in Part I.
On Theodora’s path, one walkthrough reports Advanced Licenses on sale in Megaira before Dagsion stocks them, which happens from Ch. 10.
Renown decides which exams you can sit
| Tier | Gate | Suggested level | License |
|---|---|---|---|
| Beginner | Renown 1 | 5 | Beginner License |
| Specialty | Renown 4 | 20 | Specialty License |
| Advanced | Renown 8 | 35 | Advanced License |
| Master | Part III | 45 | Master License |
| Divine | Part III, Fourth Section, Temple of the Diadem | Not listed | A unique Divine item |
Level is not a hard requirement. A lower-level unit can take an exam once Renown allows it, but the pass chance will be lower. If Renown is what is holding you back, our Renown guide covers the fastest climb.
Pass chance comes from level and weapon rank, and failures stick
The exam screen shows a pass chance before you start. It depends on the unit’s level and the weapon or skill rank the class uses. Players report the game autosaves before showing the result, so reloading to retry a failure does not work. One guide advises waiting until you see 75% or more. Divine exams require 100%.
After you pass, the class stays certified. You can switch back to any certified class through Reclass at the Exam Proctor. One guide says the Base Menu also offers it. Mastering a class unlocks its ability for good, so the unit can carry it into other classes. Unlocked classes also carry across all four paths on the same save.
A community tip says unlocking a new class rerolls the unit’s next level-up. Only one source reports it, so treat it as unconfirmed.
The 58 classes are split into five tiers
There is no parent and child promotion tree. Any unit can take any exam it qualifies for. Each class is locked to its weapons, unlike Three Houses, and there are no lord-exclusive classes.
- Beginner (5): Diviner, Gladiator, Hunter, Ornius Rider, Soldier.
- Specialty (12): Archer, Armored Knight, Armored Ornius Rider, Brigand, Charioteer, Light Cavalry, Myrmidon, Priest, Pugilist, Rogue, Shaman, Wing Soldier.
- Advanced (17): Bardinger, Bishop, Blacksmith, Caladrius, Cataphract, Dancer, Dragoon, Dreadnought, Elephant Rider, Forest Knight, Guardian, Ovate, Ranger, Shido, Sniper, Troubadour, Warrior.
- Master (16, Part III): Battle Master, Bau Lord, Bow Adept, Bow Knight, Castle Knight, Celestial Trooper, Druid, Great Knight, High Savant, Orichaldia, Sentinel, Shadow Seeker, Swordmaster, Valkyrium, War Monk, Wiseman.
- Divine (8, Part III): The Apsara, The Avatar, The Blade, The Calamity, The Cavalier, The Eternal, The Godhand, The Trident.
Two classes are female only, and mounts follow class rules
- Wing Soldier and Celestial Trooper are reported as female only. No other gender lock has been found.
- Dancer is Leda’s alone until Part III. Dancer and each Divine class can only be held by one unit at a time.
- Infantry-only abilities switch off while mounted, and mounted-only abilities switch off on foot.
- Light Cavalry rides only Horses. Ornius Rider rides only Ornius.
Six Master classes open when you restore a god’s temple in Part III
In Part III, restoring a temple unlocks its Master class. Two guides agree on which temple gives which class. Restore Jurah’s Temple before Smyrnos’ Temple, because Smyrnos’ needs Fimbulvetr.
| Temple | Master class | Restoration ask (as reported) |
|---|---|---|
| Mars’ Temple | Swordmaster | 1 Lazanibata, Giant’s Mount |
| Smyrnos’ Temple | High Savant | 1 Almamet, Dubhe Ridge |
| Jurah’s Temple | Valkyrium | 1 Jyoppa, Klytius Plains |
| Kalla’s Temple | Bow Knight | 1 Ginji, Napier Woods in Amalthea |
| Credna’s Temple | Great Knight | 1 Lightstar, Midnight Turn in Lambath |
| Aurora’s Temple | War Monk | 5 Angelica (one list says 1 Ginji; most sources say 5 Angelica) |
The other ten Master classes use the Master License and the Part III gate. No source spells out any extra unlock for them.
Each Divine class needs its own item and a high weapon rank
Divine classes open in Part III’s Fourth Section at the Temple of the Diadem. Each item sits in a chamber you open with a Key of the Diadem. The class also needs a high rank, usually S, in its weapon, and the exam needs a 100% pass chance. Only one unit can hold each Divine class at a time.
| Divine class | Item |
|---|---|
| The Apsara | Muses’ Necklace |
| The Avatar | Lotus of Reincarnation |
| The Blade | Demonic Swordguard |
| The Calamity | Crystal of Darkness |
| The Cavalier | Divinium Saddle |
| The Eternal | Scales of Judgement |
| The Godhand | Emperor’s Sash |
| The Trident | Trident |
One guide lists five Keys of the Diadem, found in Heretics’ Cave, Cougar Woodlands, Sand-Shadow Fort, Enno Isle and Giant’s-Print Fort. There are eight Divine classes, and where any other keys sit has not been reported.
What players run on each character
There is no official best class. The picks below come from two places: what players most often recommend in community discussion threads for each unit, and one published guide’s picks for the lords and a few others. Read them as community leanings, not rankings. For full team plans per path, see our unit composition guide.
| Unit | What players lean toward | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Cai | Orichaldia | One guide’s pick: a mounted spear user |
| Dietrich | The Blade, or Shadow Seeker or Swordmaster | One guide’s pick. The Blade needs Sword S, so prioritize swords |
| Theodora | Sentinel, or Great Knight | One guide’s pick |
| Leda | Dancer, then The Apsara; or Shadow Seeker | One guide’s pick |
| Esmeralda | Castle Knight, or Great Knight | One guide’s pick: a choke-point tank |
| Mikaela | Rogue or Myrmidon sword build, or Warrior | One guide picks Battle Master for an axe build |
| Ultand | Guardian, then Caladrius | Players call Ultand a weak healer and better mixed attacker. One guide picks Sentinel |
| Catania | Wing Soldier; Diviner first for magic and the Levin Sword | One guide picks Swordmaster or Shadow Seeker |
| Ninae | Guardian, then Cataphract or Sentinel | “Great mixed tank”. Players say avoid Light Cavalry |
| Io | Charioteer, then Cataphract | High Defense; Armored Move points to Cataphract |
| Benditz | Charioteer | Built entirely around one class: Hit +20 and Haphazard |
| Dadao | Charioteer | Personal skill One Chance |
| Inyoni | Archer line, then Charioteer | Bow user |
| Lilian | Archer line | Some say a Brigand detour wastes time |
| Kiroc | Archer line | Players say Kiroc never fell off on Dietrich’s path |
| Nuzzuo | Archer | A frail late recruit |
| Tobias | Archer build with Haphazard | One player’s run only |
| Noctula | Pugilist, then Warrior | Gauntlet user |
| Loretta | Gladiator, Pugilist in Parts I and II, War Monk in Part III | Players say do not build a tank |
| Mu | Warrior, War Monk, Pugilist or The Godhand | No clear favourite |
| Ludia | Warrior, then Shido or Swordmaster; Brigand | Split opinions |
| Nezha | Shido, then Swordmaster | “One of the better swordmaster characters” |
| Goliath | Shido or Ranger | A one-shot tank build |
| Lysander | Brigand, off the mount | Few comments |
| Nydine | Caladrius, then Charioteer | Few comments |
| Olympia | The Avatar | For the big spell list |
| Sirocco | Ovate, then Caladrius | Players lean mage over sword |
| Jasmine | Guardian or Armored Knight | Tank, few votes |
| Alexandra | Dragoon or Wing Soldier | A flier with the personal mount Bucephalus |
| Peppe | Dancer | Part III, once Dancer opens up |
| Majide | Charioteer; Myrmidon for accuracy; Bishop for Warp | Few comments |
| Zarcone | Brigand, then Warrior | Players call Zarcone “tissue paper” |
| Simon | Warrior | Few comments |
| Guzran | Pugilist, Myrmidon and Brigand rotation, then Warrior | 45% Strength and Speed growths |
| Sofia | Priest, then Bishop | Healer |
| Yang Jie | War Monk or Caladrius | For Physic; few votes |
Units not listed have no clear community leaning yet.
Step-by-step: change a unit’s class
Tick these off as you go. Your progress stays on this device.
Clear the exam tutorial
Ch. 4 on Theodora’s path, around Ch. 5 on Dietrich’s and Leda’s. Use your lord’s free first change.
Check your Renown rank
Renown 4 for Specialty, 8 for Advanced. Climb it before buying Licenses you cannot use.
Pick the class for the weapon
Classes are weapon-locked. Match the class to the weapon rank the unit is building.
Buy one License
From the License Vendor next to the Exam Proctor in the Temple district. Megaira may stock Advanced ones sooner.
Check the pass chance
If it is under 75%, train level and weapon rank first.
Take the exam
The game saves before the result. Pass or fail, the License is gone.
Reclass freely afterward
Switch between certified classes at the proctor and master them to keep their abilities.
Troubleshooting and common mistakes
- Mistake: Looking for seals. Fix: There are none. Class change is the Certification Exam with a License.
- Mistake: Taking an exam at a low pass chance. Fix: The autosave locks in a failure. Wait for 75% or more.
- Mistake: Buying a stack of Licenses early. Fix: Renown gates the exam, not the purchase. Buy one when you are ready.
- Mistake: Expecting a promotion tree. Fix: Any unit can sit any exam it qualifies for.
- Mistake: The Advanced exam you want is missing. Fix: It may be a hidden class. Finish its path quest.
- Mistake: Restoring Smyrnos’ Temple first. Fix: It needs Fimbulvetr. Do Jurah’s first.
- Mistake: Giving two units the same Divine class. Fix: Only one unit can hold each Divine class, and Dancer too.
