Sword of the Sea shows up on the Xbox Store with an October 29 date, and Giant Squid hasn’t said a word

The surfing adventure from the artist behind Journey and Abzu has an unannounced Xbox Series X|S listing, with a new publisher name attached.

Sword of the Sea has an Xbox Series X|S page on the Xbox Store, and Microsoft’s store catalog lists its release date as October 29, 2026 at 16:00 UTC, which is 9am Pacific. Giant Squid, the studio behind the game, has not announced an Xbox version. The listing surfaced this weekend, and the catalog entry was last modified on October 22.

The page is not a pre-order yet. There is no price attached, no purchase button, and no Game Pass label. Store dates can move before a listing goes live, so treat October 29 as the current plan rather than a promise.

The publisher is listed as Fictions, not Giant Squid

The one real surprise in the listing is the publisher field. On PlayStation 5 and Steam, Giant Squid published Sword of the Sea itself. The Xbox page names a publisher called Fictions, with Giant Squid as developer. We could not find a public record of a games publisher by that name, and neither company has explained it. Giant Squid’s earlier games went out through 505 Games and Annapurna Interactive.

The listing’s feature flags say 4K, 60 frames per second, optimized for Series X|S, single player, with achievements and cloud saves.

What Sword of the Sea is

Sword of the Sea launched on August 19, 2025 on PS5 and PC, where it sells for $29.99 on Steam. You play the Wraith, surfing a hoversword across dunes and water to bring a dead ocean back to life, with movement built on skateboarding and snowboarding tricks. It comes from Matt Nava, the artist behind Journey, Abzu and The Pathless, with music by Austin Wintory.

In April, when a player asked about Xbox, Giant Squid replied that it was beginning to look into port options. Six months later, the port appears to be a week away. We will update this story if Giant Squid or Fictions explains the listing.
