Unknown Worlds has released the second Early Access update for Subnautica 2, introducing proximity voice chat, a revive system, and other cooperative play features. The studio also announced a $100,000 donation to The Ocean Cleanup, a non-profit that removes plastic pollution from oceans.
Proximity voice chat applies distance-based spatial audio to player communication, making nearby teammates sound louder and more directional while voices fade naturally as players move apart. The new revive system lets downed players remain in the game instead of dying immediately, allowing teammates to revive them within a limited window.
The update also adds an emote system for non-voice communication, direct teammate inventory access to share resources, throwable location tags, and improvements to the signal system and base-building. Unknown Worlds said these changes aim to make cooperation more meaningful during deep-sea survival.
This marks the studio’s continued support for ocean conservation. Unknown Worlds previously donated a portion of the original Subnautica’s proceeds to The Ocean Cleanup on World Environment Day in 2019.
Subnautica 2 is available now on Steam, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox PC, and Epic Games Store in Early Access.
