Unknown Worlds released the first Early Access update for Subnautica 2, expanding the Biomod system and adding new content to the survival game. The update arrives after the game surpassed 5 million cumulative sales in early June, two months after its May 14 Early Access launch.

The update adds two new Biolabs in the Coral Gardens and Axum Ruins areas, bringing the total number of unlockable Biomods from four to six. Biomods let players temporarily borrow traits from creatures to enhance their abilities. Players can also unlock additional passive Biomod slots by scanning targets with the Bioscanner.

Co-op improvements are a major focus. Audio logs will no longer play automatically when collected in multiplayer sessions; instead, players can manually play them through the PDA Databank, the in-game archive for creature scans and records. This prevents audio from playing for other players during shared sessions.

Exploration and survival features have also been refined. Wrecks now include additional routes and oxygen-based puzzles, while players can now sprint outside water, including on the surface and inside bases. Base-building improvements include better placement for the Tadpole Dock and Fabricator, plus a new dedicated storage structure.

Subnautica 2 is available now on Steam, Xbox Series X|S and PC, and the Epic Games Store. According to Unknown Worlds, the studio is shaping the game throughout Early Access based on player feedback through its “open development” approach.
