Portuguese independent studio One Way Eleven has released a new trailer for Hanno: A Magical Tale, a story-driven action-adventure about a boy and a baby elephant who become family. The game is in development for PC via Steam, with release planned for 2027, and is available to wishlist on Steam now.
The game follows Vimal, an orphaned boy from a small village who finds Hanno, a wounded baby elephant, alone in the forest. He promises to look after the animal, but according to the studio, Hanno’s magic is also what makes Vimal strong, and that magic only works while Vimal carries him. The pair explore, solve environmental puzzles and fight together against a mysterious threat that begins corrupting their world. At times they part ways, and players can control Hanno directly.
The story is inspired by a real Asian elephant sent from Portugal to Pope Leo X in 1514, an animal that history mostly treated as a gift. The game is set in Ashar, an original world with its own written language. Creative Director Pedro Campos said the team wanted to avoid building “another creature that exists to carry the hero.”
According to the publisher’s press materials, the game took 2nd place at the GameStar FYNG Indie Award 2026 at gamescom and was an Indie Arena Booth Official Selection 2026 at the same show. The studio says it has been developing the game since 2023 with a small team.
