WoodRunner Games has announced that its hand-drawn 2D platformer Croak will launch on Xbox Series X|S and PC in March 2027. The announcement came during the ID@Xbox Showcase, where the studio also released a new trailer.
Croak will be available on Xbox Game Pass from day one. A demo is already out, and the studio says it has the game’s latest look in the new trailer.
The game stars a frog prince who uses a stretchy tongue to grapple, climb, launch and bounce through hand-crafted environments. Levels are built around puzzle solving as much as platforming, with dozens of stages that grow more dangerous as you progress. The game also includes a boss fight against a beaver riding a BMX bike.
According to the studio, the hand-drawn animation comes from artists who previously worked on Cuphead and Rick and Morty. The game has multiple biomes, coins to collect, secrets to find and ultra-hard difficulty levels.
WoodRunner Games is a Montréal-based indie studio. Croak is its first announced title, and the studio describes it as a gameplay-driven platformer with a strong artistic identity.
